Simone Biles clinched the gold medal in the all-around gymnastics event at Paris 2024 to become the oldest woman to achieve the feat since 1952. Biles, who also became the third woman in history to become a two-time champion of the event, finished with a total score of 59.131. The 27-year-old finished just over a point ahead of Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade at 57.932, with fellow American Sunisa Lee in third place. Biles was forced to bring out her signature move, the Yurchenko double pike vault, in an effort to fend off Andrade, despite the move not being in the original plan. “I don't want to compete with Rebeca no more. I'm tired. Like, she's way too close. I've never had an athlete that close. I was like, 'I think I have to bring up the big guns this time. After the bars, when I saw the score come up I was like, 'Thank God we did the double pike today,' because I was not planning on it,” said Simone Biles. The most decorated gymnast of all time wore a silver chain of a goat, declaring herself of the ‘Greatest Of All Time (GOAT)’ following the win. The win marks a miraculous turnaround for Biles, who withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 after suffering from the "twisties.”
