Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton won his first race since December 2021 after fending off Lando Norris and Max Verstappen to capture the British Grand Prix. Hamilton triumphed at his home race for the ninth time, which is a record for victories at a single circuit, while also clocking his 104th career win. The 39-year-old started the race second on the grid behind teammate George Russell before passing his fellow Brit on Lap 18. However, McLaren’s Norris capitalized on the Mercedes duo sliding off the track a lap later and took the lead at Silverstone. Hamilton retook the lead after stopping alongside Verstappen on lap 38 for a tire change, with Norris pulling into the pits a lap later. The race was set up perfectly for a grandstand finish, and while Hamilton was holding off Norris, Verstappen began closing the lead to the front. The Red Bull driver passed Norris before closing the gap to Hamilton to 3.2 seconds with four laps to go; however, the seven-time world champion prevailed.
